Who is FBIE?

Fighting Blindness in Ethiopia (FBIE)
is a non-profit charity (No. SC-040437) established to promote cure for widely-spread eye disease in Ethiopia among the 85% of the population living in rural areas of the country.

These are the objectives and purposes of FBIE:

Section 1: FBIE has the objective to fight blindness
1. Collecting and buying necessary eye equipment.
2. Training and developing local ophthalmic practitioners.
3. Supplying eye medicine for pre- and post-operation.
4. Supplying all disposable and non-disposable eye instruments and implants.
Section 2: Purpose of the objective of FBIE
1. To carry out all operations for cataract and other related eye diseases.
2. To examine and treat Trachoma disease.
3. To set up and prescribe eye glasses for all refractive errors.
Section 3: Targets of the objective of FBIE
1. To enable all blind farmers in Ethiopia to be self dependent.
2. To improve health and sanitation for the rural people of Ethiopia.
3. To improve and assist eye testing for rural school children.
4. To establish a regular mobile eye check-up clinics.
5. To organise mobile eye operation.
6. To establish link between eye clinics in the country.
Section 4: How to achieve the targets of FBIE
1. By mobilising volunteer ophthalmologists and ophthalmic nurses.
2. By collecting lens implants from donors.
3. By collecting all disposable eye materials required for eye operation.
4. By collecting or buying all necessary eye equipment and instruments from donors.
5. By establishing link with an ophthalmologist in Ethiopia to coordinate screening patients foroperations.
Section 5: Financial Resources—FBIE shall strive to augment its financial resources from the following sources:
1. Gifts and donations from churches
2. Gifts and donations from other charities and organizations
3. Gifts and donations from individuals who would support the objectives of FBIE
4. Other fund generating activities including fundraising.
